Last year, there was a case of 14-year-old Wasila Umaru, a child bride who killed her 35-year-old husband because she did not love him and was forced to marry him. She was then charged with  “culpable homicide” after giving a confession.
Ever since she was charged, numerous human rights groups have been campaigning on her behalf, urging the court to drop the charge. However, it appears that the campaigning has been unsuccessful.
Vanguard reports that an Abuja High Court on Tuesday rejected a motion to have the charges against Umaru dropped, stating that there was enough evidence to proceed with the prosecution.
The trial will resume on April 29.
