Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom believes that the state could be suffering from a spell, hence its inability of the state to develop rapidly.

Speaking on Friday, in Taraku, Gwer local government area, during his tour of the gigantic Taraku Mills and industry, Ortom noted that the factory was a goldmine which should not have been allowed to waste away.

He therefore said his government’s commitment to resuscitate industries in the State in keeping with its policy to create jobs and wealth was unshakable. He assured that the Taraku Mills would be revived soon.

“The raw materials are here and when the factory starts working, farmers will smile. I will look outside the box to ensure that this is achieved. I want to pay tribute to late Governor Aper Aku who had the foresight to establish this factory and I promise to build on his legacies. We will create the enabling environment to ensure that our industries functional again,” Ortom promised.

Managing Director of Taraku Mills, Mr. Earnest Jor said the company was faced with water problems. He said plans were on to construct a dam to address the challenge. Jor stated that when fully functional, the mill was capable of engaging over 600 persons.

Ortom also visited the Otukpo Burnt Bricks company which was established in 1981 but has become moribund. He assured that modern machines would be purchased and expatriates engaged by government to ensure the plant starts working again.
