Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has stated that he was ready to offer useful advice and guidance to his predecessor, Samuel Ortom on how to take Benue
state to greater hieghts.

The ex-governor made this promise in an independence message via his official Facebook page, the former governor said the President’s speech bore the hallmark of an administration that acknowledged the shortfalls of the past but chose to move forward.

He thanked the people of Benue state for giving him the opportunity to serve for the past 16 years and promised to provide credible and alternative viewpoint to help the state and federal Government succeed.

This year’s Independence Day is significant to me in many ways. Firstly, it is my first after 16 years in public office. (Since the inception of the current democratic dispensation)
Secondly, it is the first time in recent times I will be observing governance from a non-direct key player perspective. This has given me time to acknowledge and appreciate the rare privilege accorded me by the people of Benue State for the time of my service to them.

Now, Nigeria is “55” and the opportunities to her are first, Human resources and secondly, her unity in diversity. I watched the Presidential address to the Nation and it rejuvenated my hope for a leadership that is poised to end the numerous infrastructural decay in our Nation as well as a genuine recourse to the fight against corruption. A leader who acknowledges the shortfalls of the past but is poised not to remain in it but to move forward demonstrates his awareness of the challenges that first brought him to that position.

Those who come to leadership with a mindset to serve are determined to show a difference, despite all odds. This is a huge challenge and a task for all Nigerians.

We must not look at the 4 years period as a time for meeting all perceived challenges. Four years may sound like a lot of time but in a budgetary economy, this brings it to barely two and half years of working.

It is therefore our collective desire that we see a society beyond promises. On my part, i will provide credible and alternative viewpoint to help the Government of the day succeed in her set developmental goals for our State and Nation at large.
